Level 1 Sports Trainer Course

Saturday 23rd November and Sunday 24th November

The Level 1 Sports Trainer course covers how to manage emergency situations and apply first aid in a Rugby League environment as well as injury management, crisis management, concussion management, sports taping and transporting an injured athlete.  

Participants are required to complete NRL online learning modules, these include:

– The Role of the First Responder
– Concussion Management in Rugby League
– Introduction to Anatomy and Physiology
– Introduction to Nutrition and Hydration
– Activity for Injury Prevention
– Online Injury Reporting – Community Rugby League

All candidates who successfully complete the course will receive a digital Statement of Attainment for the units of competency:

– HLTAID011 Provide First Aid
– HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

As well as a digital Level 1 Sports Trainer Certificate, issued by the NRL.

Note: Candidates who already hold a current first and CPR certification can apply for recognition of prior learning. 

USI

New or continuing students undertaking nationally recognised training need a Unique Student Identifier (USI) prior to enrolment for this course. To get a USI or check if you have a USI please visit www.usi.gov.au

Students must have a USI to be issued with a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment.

Pre-requisites

Must be at least 18 years of age. 

Course Content

The Level 1 Sports Trainer course is designed for prospective Sports Trainers. Participants who register to the course will also complete the following nationally recognised units of competency:

  • HLTAID011 Provide First Aid
  • HLTAID009 Provide CPR

The course builds upon the role of first aidand emergency responders, introducing participants to the basic principles of sports medicine with a distinct emphasis on practical knowledge and skills required by a Sports Trainer including injury management, crisis management, sports taping and transporting an injured athlete.

This course educates prospective Sports Trainers, teachers, coaches, administrators and parents on the basic principles of sports medicine using simulated real-life scenarios which could appear in the community, sporting and/or workplace settings.

The Level 1 Sports Trainer is the NRL’s minimum requirement for working with players 16 years and older.
For players under 16 years of age, the minimum requirement is League First Aid.

Additional information

If you are feeling sick, unwell or have a temperature please do not attend the course. Whilst at the course please always practice social distancing and safe hygiene practices. 

Please bring pen and paper, closed in footwear and a drink bottle. Please note meals are not provided as part of the course. Participants are encouraged to bring their own meals, snacks and water.

Day 1 – 8:30am to 5:00pm
Day 2 – 9:00am to 1:00pm
